Huellas (des)calzadas: Rastros y desplazamientos de la teoría estética heideggeriana en Atrabiliarios de Doris Salcedo

This essay aims to establish a relation of hypothetical intertextuality between “The Origin of the Work of Art” (1935-1936) by Martin Heidegger and the work Atrabiliarios (1992/2004) by Colombian artist Doris Salcedo. Even though there is no explicit evidence of Heidegger being part of Salcedo’s personal library, her works and recent interviews suggest that she might have been influenced by Heidegger’s aesthetic theory. This analysis will demonstrate that the aforementioned influence, as exemplified in Atrabiliarios, does not entail a mere refraction or an illustration of Heidegger’s theory of art, but rather a critical departure from its philosophical presumptions.
