La casa en la playa: la costa como frontera

Main Article Content

Mercedes Alonso
The three contemporary novels from the Río de la Plata region analyzed in the article, Puras mentiras (2001) by Juan Forn, Diario de la arena (2010) by Hugo Burel y La costa ciega (2009) by Carlos María Domínguez, imagine beach houses as spaces that, far from the touristic ideal, allow their inhabitants to isolate themselves. The beach turns into a border that shelters those seeking to place themselves on an edge—of space, of life—to produce a transformation. The article analyzes the representation of space (the house and the beach) linked to the topics and motives present in the novels and to their narrative structure. It also aims to suggest two possible derivations: the way in which literature considers coastal spaces, and the relationship between narrative space and narrative forms.
