Periférica blvd. o una (neo)barroca pesquisa en la paz

Periférica Blvd. by Adolfo Cardenas stands out as one of the works that best represents the detective novel genre in Bolivia. Its prolific nature is related to its intelligent use of parody―described by Linda Hutcheon as «repetition with critical [ironic] distance» (1985: 37)―, humor, a baroque writing style, a palimpsest of roles, the reconstructed peripheral speech of its characters, and one of the most suggestive representations of the city of La Paz. All of these features defy what is normally expected from this genre, and position the work as one of the best (if not the best) Bolivian novels written in the last thirty years.
