In this article we set out a typology of the audiovisual graphic design used by the principal Spanish television stations. The article contains a study of graphics in television news, in which we review the principal functions of graphics and their most common use, to fill certain news deficits. The objective of this research is to establish certain properties for each type of graphic for semantic news searches. To this end, we investigate those which have their own identity and specific characteristics, while verifying that there are no others, though these can be found in combined or mixed forms. This unprecedented typology makes distinctions in function of the languages used in the graphic, their different physical appearances and characteristics and the process of production of information, which is ever more frequently supported by and developed with digital simulation technologies. In addition to serving as a documentary basis for journalists and graphic designers, this typology establishes a qualitative indication related to the objectives of each graphic in a news article.
