La teoria social de la delinqüència en Ernest W. Burgess Arrels del pensament actuarial

L’article investiga el treball criminològic realitzat per Ernest Burgess vinculat a l’Escola de Chicago, tant de manera directa en els seus estudis sobre la delinqüència juvenil o la reincidència, com indirecta a través del suport que va mostrar a diversos dels seus col·laboradors, tal com es percep en els pròlegs o recensiones que va redactar. Encara que la seva contribució és diversa i no segueix un únic patró —ja que combina investigacions de caràcter qualitatiu basades en estudis de cas amb altres de caràcter quantitatiu i d’intenció predictiva—, ha estat l’impacte d’aquestes darreres, així com les controvèrsies que van suscitar, allò que més ha destacat entre els analistes. Amb aquest propòsit, es revisen els antecedents de l’ús de les estadístiques per a la predicció de la delinqüència i, finalment, es constata la ubicació de Burgess en la trajectòria de l’anàlisi criminològica actuarial contemporània.
