Més enllà d’un laboratori sociològic: una experiència històrica de recerca urbana amb perspectiva de gènere a la Hull House de Chicago (1892-1903)

Aquest article analitza les contribucions de les residents de la Hull House de Chicago a la investigació dels problemes de la ciutat industrial de finals del segle XIX, i les contrasta amb la noció de “ciutat com a laboratori” desenvolupada per l’Escola de Sociologia de Chicago. Les residents de la Hull House van ser pioneres en l’anàlisi empírica de la desigualtat urbana i de l’explotació laboral mitjançant l’ús de dades, estadístiques i mapes com a eines de transformació social. El seu mètode, inspirat en la “comunitat d’indagació” pragmatista, entenia el coneixement com un procés col·laboratiu orientat a millorar les condicions de vida urbana. L’article reivindica la vigència d’aquest enfocament pioner per repensar la recerca urbana contemporània des d’una perspectiva feminista, interseccional i pragmatista, compromesa amb la justícia social i el cuidar com a dimensions centrals de la vida urbana.
