Mato Grosso is the largest producer of soybeans in Brazil and town of Primavera do Leste focuses around 5% regional soy. The aim of this study was to determine the thermodynamic efficiency of the energy input-output flows of soybean harvests between 2000 and 2010. From an economic standpoint, soy production demonstrates trend of economic gross margin compression. From the thermodynamic point of view, the soybean production maintains a thermodynamic efficiency of 3,97±0,4 in relation input-output energy. The most important inputs are fertilizers and herbicides, with increasing participation of fuels and fungicides. The industrial inputs reached the average of 92.2% of energy inputs in the analyzed period, while the biological inputs (seeds and hand labor) reached 7.7% of the energy inputs. It is concluded that the production of soybean in Primavera do Leste needs to be planned and adjusted to become sustainable.
