Maria Incoronata Colantuono
This work retraces the steps that led to the metamorphosis of medieval Ritual of Unctio infirmorum (IX-XII) to Extrema Unctio, starting from the recent changes contained in the latest Ordo Unctionis Infirmorum (1973). From liturgical texts contained in their medieval Rituals emerge ways of living and coping with illness, suffering, death and penance. Specifically, they analyze the Rituals included in two ninth century manuscripts of the area Narbonne-Catalan: the Rituale ad usum Crassensis 933 ms Latin BNF and the Sacramentary ms Vic 66. )e analysis of the texts of the Antiphons and the Prayers leads eventually to a perception of the body as the Tabernacle of the Holy Spirit, only later becoming vehicle of sin.
