This paper presents the current state of research on the tonadilla, ranging from the nationalistic views of José Subirà to more postmodern and transversal approaches, specifically from the year 2000 onwards. The article focuses especially on recent contributions by three scholars from abroad: the socioeconomical and gender perspective by Rebecca Haidt (Ohio State University); the recent monograph in English on the tonadilla by Elisabeth Le Guin (University of California), and the essays by Aurèlia Pessarrodona at the University of Bologna.
