The Agronomic Tradition in Athenaeus of Naucratis (2.49b-3.85c): sources, genres and authors

Main Article Content
In the work of Athenaeus of Naucratis, questions relating to the agricultural world occupy a very important place, from perspectives as diverse as botany, gastronomy, medicine, ethnography, agronomy, or mere erudition. In books II and III (49b-85c) in particular, Athenaeus shows himself to be familiar, directly or indirectly, with the long tradition of agricultural literature: for the description and differentiation of agricultural products, he turns to a wide variety of sources of different genres, but only occasionally to agricultural treatises.
