Nature’s Revenge. «The Day Of The Triffids» And The Reverse Colonization

Main Article Content

Santiago Lucendo

The aim of this essay is to point out the importance of the triffids, created in John Wyndham's novel The day of the triffids (1951) as an avant-garde of a unique vegetal world. Besides being referent of plant terror, it anticipates recent studies that initiated the interest of the plant agency and its unexpected capabilities. The comparison with other fantastic vegetable creatures, like Tolkien's Ents, and the application of the concept of reverse colonization to the plants, allow us to understand better the meaning and the evolution of the triffid in an actual context. Leading us from literary fiction, to a renew the idea of the lurking vegetal world, now integrated by subjects, which we need to attend to change the paradigm in the context of an unavoidable environmental reflection.
