In 1869, the domestic water supply in the city of Girona began, with flows coming from the municipality of Aiguaviva. This coincided, in time and space, with the industrialization of the Mercadal sector in Girona as a result of the confiscation of Mendizábal and the availability of the Monar canal flows. Leading industries at the time in paper manufacturing, mechanical and electrical constructions, cotton spinning mills and others that would contribute decisively to the technological transformation that initially involved the use of hydraulic power and electricity at the end of the 19th century.
