Una nova proposta etimològica per a la Febró (Baix Camp)

Dolors Bramon
A new origin is proposed for the name la Febró, relating it to the Latin noun bever/fever, the medieval term for the beaver. The study of a number of toponyms (Febro, Fibros, Febras and Feveros) indicates to the presence of these animals in Galicia and Portugal, and the author supports the claim with a quote from Strabo, referring to the whole of Hispania. For the Catalan toponym of la Febró, evidence is presented from several medieval Arab-Muslim writers recording the existence of beavers in the Ebro basin, where this village is located.
