Witness to AIDS (2005) d’Edwin Cameron relata els secrets de l'epidèmia del VIH a Sud-àfrica. Aquesta memòria autobiogràfica aborda els desafiaments associats amb el virus en un entramat polític convuls, marcat per la postura negacionista del llavors president del país: Thabo Mbeki (1999-2007). Així, aquest article explora la importància de l'ètica de la cura i la justícia social, posant el focus en la rendició de comptes en els primers anys del postapartheid. El text es recolza en el marc teòric de les humanitats mèdiques i l'escriptura biogràfica amb l'objectiu de mostrar la contribució de les humanitats a l'hora d'abordar el significat de viure amb el VIH a Sud-àfrica.
